How do the kidneys filter blood and maintain electrolyte balance?
I know the kidneys are responsible for filtering blood and keeping our electrolytes in check, but how do they actually do this? What are the main structures involved in filtration, and how do they regulate things like sodium, potassium, and water balance? Are there common diseases that disrupt this process?

The kidneys filter blood through tiny structures called nephrons. They remove waste and extra water, then reabsorb the stuff your body needs like sodium, potassium, and calcium.

Hormones like aldosterone and ADH help the kidneys decide how much water and salt to keep or get rid of. That’s how your body stays balanced even if you eat or drink different amounts each day.

If the kidneys aren’t working right, waste and electrolytes build up in the blood, which can be really dangerous. That’s why kidney disease is such a big deal.
