How do the structures of arteries and veins differ functionally?
I know arteries and veins both carry blood, but I’m a little fuzzy on how their structures make them suited to their different roles. What are the main anatomical differences between arteries and veins, and how do these differences help them do their jobs? Are there any exceptions or interesting variations in different parts of the body?

Arteries have thicker, more muscular walls because they carry blood away from the heart under high pressure. Veins have thinner walls and valves to prevent backflow since blood pressure is much lower on the way back to the heart.

Veins are more flexible and can expand to hold more blood, which helps regulate blood volume. Arteries, on the other hand, need to be strong to withstand the force of each heartbeat.

One cool thing is that veins rely on muscle contractions to help push blood back to the heart, especially from your legs. That’s why moving around is so important for circulation.
