What are the most important anatomical landmarks for injections?

For anyone in healthcare or training, what are the key anatomical landmarks you need to know for giving safe and effective injections? Are there any tips or tricks for finding these landmarks, and what are the risks if you miss them? Would love some practical advice or stories from experience!

For intramuscular injections, the deltoid muscle (upper arm) and gluteus medius (hip) are common sites. You have to avoid nerves and blood vessels, so knowing the landmarks is crucial.

The ventrogluteal site is safest for adults because it’s away from major nerves and vessels. For kids, the thigh (vastus lateralis) is often used.

I’m a nurse, and we always double-check landmarks before giving injections. Missing the right spot can cause pain, nerve injury, or even infection.
