Why do some people get more severe muscle cramps than others?

Muscle cramps can be really painful, and I’ve noticed that some people seem to get them way more often or more severely than others. Is there an anatomical explanation for this, or is it just about hydration and electrolytes? Are there differences in muscle or nerve structure that make some people more prone to cramps?

Cramps can be caused by dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, or overuse, but some people are just more prone to them. Genetics, age, and even medications can play a role.

I get cramps a lot after running, and my doctor said it’s partly because I sweat a lot and lose sodium and potassium. Stretching and staying hydrated helps, but some people just get them more often.

There might be differences in nerve sensitivity or muscle fiber type, too. Some people’s muscles just react more strongly to certain triggers.
